►  Choosing the Right Pool Table Mechanic — A Must Read Before You Hire Anyone!

How to Prepare for a Pool Table Move

A professional pool table move goes smoothly when both sides are prepared. We handle the technical work — disassembly, transport, leveling — but there are a few things you can do ahead of time that make the whole process faster and easier. Here's exactly what we recommend.

Before Moving Day

Clear a path through both homes

We need a clear, unobstructed path from the pool table's current location to the exit, and from the entrance to the new location. That means doorways free of rugs, boxes, and furniture. Measure any tight doorways or turns — while we've handled nearly every configuration imaginable, knowing about a challenging hallway or tight staircase in advance helps us plan the move efficiently.

Decide where the table is going

Before we arrive, know the exact room and approximate position for the table in the new home. Use our room dimension chart to confirm there's adequate cue clearance on all sides. Moving a pool table twice because the room doesn't work adds time and cost.

Think about your felt

A move is the ideal time to refelt your table if the cloth is aging. Once we disassemble the table, adding new felt is straightforward and costs much less than a separate service call. If your felt is more than 7 years old, shows wear tracks, or has any thin spots, let us know ahead of time and we can bring materials. Check our felt color chart if you want to change colors.

Handle the light fixture first

If you have a pool table light, it should be installed at the new location before we arrive with the table. The ideal height is 36–40 inches above the playing surface — which means the bottom of the shades should be roughly 66–70 inches from the floor. It's much easier to hang the light before the table is in place.

Consider the flooring

If you're also getting new flooring installed in the room, coordinate that timing carefully. The pool table needs to come out before flooring goes in, and we'll need to return after installation to reassemble. Our flooring move service is specifically designed for this situation.

On Moving Day

Be present or have someone there

We'll need access to both locations and someone available to answer questions — especially about the final table position, leveling shim visibility, and felt color if you're refelting. You don't need to hover, but don't leave us locked out.

Remove balls, accessories, and covers

Clear the table surface before we arrive. Ball racks, bridges, covers, and any accessories stored underneath or around the table should be moved out of the way. We don't transport loose accessories.

Protect your floors

Let us know if you have hardwood or tile floors you're concerned about. We use furniture pads and take care around delicate flooring, but giving us a heads-up helps.

What to Expect During the Move

We begin with our Tru Table inspection — a complete assessment of the table's condition. We'll point out anything noteworthy and discuss it with you before we start. Disassembly and loading typically takes 30–45 minutes. Reassembly at the new location takes 1.5–2 hours. When we're done, the table will be level, playable, and covered by our lifetime warranty on labor and level.
